About
BrainFit
The
underlying urgency and motivation for BRAINFIT is based on
cutting edge research on the aging brain. Using advanced
brain imaging technology, neuroscientists are learning about
the brain's amazing capacity for rejuvenation. When
stimulated in new ways, new connections form between existing
brain cells. Without these electrical/chemical connections
brains cells atrophy and die. According to Dr. Lawrence C.
Katz (Duke University, Medical Professor of Neurobiology),
brain exercises can help stimulate this rejuvenation process
by enriching and increasing the number of connections between
brain cells.
Still
we are working against the clock. According to Dr.
Gary Small, Director of the UCLA Center on Aging, "the
tiny plaques and tangles which are the first signs of brain
aging begin forming early in our adult lives, even in our
twenties...and they will increase insidiously if we do nothing
about them".
So
given the research, we are faced with a decision. We
can do nothing, and hope genetics works in our favor, or
we can start a brain exercise program now to help guard against
dementia later.
The
choice is ours, we can "use it or lose it".
